Political scientist Jane Mansbridge, a leading voice in contemporary political thought, has dedicated her work to rethinking the paradigms of contemporary political theory. She has influenced several generations of political scientists around the world with her profound reflection on models of citizen participation and representation. At a time when the discourses of hate and authoritarianism are calling democratic values into question, he proposes testing new forms of deliberation to update democratic practice. How to introduce the capacity to listen amidst the noise of the present? Where will democracy evolve in the years to come?

On the occasion of the publication of the book Democracia. Amistad y pugna (Gedisa, 2021), which brings together fundamental texts for understanding his democratic theory, Mansbridge will talk with Josep Lluís Martí, an expert in deliberative democracy and citizen participation, and Felipe Rey Salamanca, responsible for the selection and translation of the texts in the book and a specialist in American political theory. A conversation on the current challenges facing democracy and the role of the ability to listen as an instrument for guaranteeing its future.

The event will take place in the Sala Teatre of the CCCB.
