Abel Riu

Political scientist specialising in the post-Soviet space

He holds a degree in Political Science and Administration from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Master's degree in Eurasian Studies from the University of Uppsala, with a thesis on the foreign and security policy of the Russian Federation between 2000 and 2013. He is currently president and one of the co-founders of the Catalonia Global Institute, a Catalan think tank dedicated to analysing and studying Catalonia's foreign relations from a pro-sovereignty perspective.

He has developed his professional career in the field of international relations, development cooperation and consultancy in European projects. In 2017, he worked as head of relations with the Baltic States in the Delegation of the Generalitat in Poland and the Baltic States, and since 2019 he has directed the international office of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC). Since 2014, he has collaborated with media such as La Directa, El Punt Avui, Nación Digital, El Tiempo, elDiario.es, TV3, Catalunya Ràdio, Rac1, Ser Catalunya, 8TV and Ràdio Estel, on issues related to conflicts and current affairs in the post-Soviet space.
