Meritxell Colell Aparicio

Filmmaker

Graduated in Audiovisual Communication at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in 2006. In 2005, she received a scholarship to study at the Universidad del Cine (FUC) in Buenos Aires, where she made Manuscrit a la ciutat. As an editor, she worked on nine feature films screened at prestigious international festivals. As a director, she signed her first feature film in 2018. Con el viento was selected for the Atélier de la Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, premiered at the 68th Berlinale and won an award at the Malaga Festival. It has been screened at more than fifty festivals around the world. 

In 2020, she premiered Transoceàniques at the Nara Festival (Japan), and received a special mention from the Spanish jury at the Gijón Festival. Her second fiction feature, Dúo, was released in 2022 and received the award for best director at the Malaga Festival (Zonazine). She is also developing Lejos de los árboles, a new feature film that will feature sound artist Angélica Castelló.

Since 2007 she combines filmmaking with film education and is part of the team of Cine en curso, a project of the A Bao A Qu association. She is an associate lecturer on the Audiovisual Communication degree at the UPF and teaches seminars and workshops at the School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia (ESCAC), the Barcelona Film School (ECIB), the International School of Cinema and Television (EICTV) and the Institute of Continuing Education (IDEC).

He collaborates with the Fundació Miró with audiovisual pieces such as «À toute épreuve», més que un llibre, Sumer i el paradigma modern, Ito Shinsui. Tradició i modernitat, and Autogestió.

She has written and directed the film La ciutat a la vora, selected for the Simfonies de ciutat project and produced by the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) in collaboration with Dones Visuals, which premiered at the D'A Film Festival 2022.
