One of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary Catalan literature, Antònia Vicens first came to prominence in the mid-1960s with the short story collection Banc de fusta and the novel 39º a l’ombra, which won the Premi Sant Jordi in 1967. Since then, she has built an extensive literary career, with titles such as Material de fulletó (1971), La santa (1980), Terra seca (1987), Lluny del tren (2002), Ànima de gos (2007), Quasi un miracle. Tots els contes (2022) and Crideu la mort errant, digueu-me on va (2024). In 2009, her career reached a turning point with Lovely, her first poetry collection. This marked the beginning of a poetic phase that has continued with books such as Sota el paraigua el crit (2013), Fred als ulls (2015), the award-winning Tots els cavalls (2017), Per què fem amb la mare morta (2020) and Agafa la teva creu (2025). Her career has been recognised with numerous awards and distinctions, including the Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes, the Creu de Sant Jordi, the National Culture Award and the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts.
