Carles Prado Fonts
Professor of Modern Chinese and Sinophone Literature
He is Professor of Arts and Humanities at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and director of its doctoral programme in Humanities and Communication. He has taught at Pompeu Fabra University, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, UCLA and Beijing Language and Culture University, and has served as director of East Asian Studies at the UOC.
He holds a PhD in Translation Theory and Intercultural Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a PhD in Modern Chinese Literature from the University of California. He has translated a number of Chinese authors and intellectuals into Catalan and Spanish. He is the author of Regresar a China (Trotta, 2019), which received the ICAS Book Prize, and Secondhand China: Spain, the East, and the Politics of Translation (Northwestern University Press, 2022). His research explores the tensions between the global literary system and modern and contemporary Chinese-language literature.
