Margaryta Yakovenko

Journalist and writer

She is a journalist at El País and a commentator on international politics for various media outlets. She has worked as an editor at PlayGround magazine and as a journalist at El Periódico de Catalunya and La Opinión de Murcia. She contributed a short story to the collective work Cuadernos de medusa vol. II (Amor de Madre, 2018) and is the author of the novel Desencajada (Caballo de Troya, 2020), a story about the search for identity, loneliness and the uprooting experienced by different generations of migrants, which received the Gaudí Grasol Literature Prize and the Mandarache Prize.

Her latest book is Ocupación (Seix Barral, 2026), a novel combining autofiction and historical fiction that spans a century of tensions between Russia and Ukraine and draws on her own family history.
