Urbanist

He is co-founder and currently Dean of the School of Environment and Architecture in Mumbai. He is a partner at Bard Studio alongside Rupali Gupte and also one of the co-founders of the urban research network CRIT (crit.in). His work encompasses exploratory research and experimental pedagogy focused on the relationship between urban form and life.

His notable works include Multifarious Nows, an installation that reconfigures the politics surrounding Mumbai’s cotton mill lands (Manifesta, 2007); Housing Types in Mumbai, a study funded by the Urban Age initiative (London School of Economics, 2007); Transactional Objects, an installation for the 56th Venice Art Biennale (2015) and a solo exhibition at Project 88 (2018); Systems and Madness (Seoul Biennale of Architecture, 2017); Itinerant Desires (MAAT, Lisbon, 2021), an installation exploring the journeys of small goods from China to India; and Belly of the Strange, presented at MACBA (2018), in Dhaka (2023) and Delhi (2023).
