Luca Carrubba

Researcher, lecturer and curator in digital culture

Working across digital art, cultural processes and interactive technologies, Luca Carrubba’s work focuses on technopolitics and the potential of these practices to foster innovation and social transformation. He holds a PhD in Arts, is a sociologist of communication and a specialist in technopolitics, and has devoted much of his career to the systematic study of video games, understood both as an algorithmic technology and a form of contemporary creation. From this perspective, he explores the relationships between digital gaming, culture, art, education and new forms of production.

He has developed exhibitions and programmes for institutions including La Casa Encendida, ”la Caixa” Foundation, La Capella, Foto Colectania, CentroCentro, Tabakalera and Instituto Cervantes. His work includes the exhibition Homo Ludens: videojuegos para entender el presente, an anthropological exploration of digital gaming and its role in contemporary society. He is currently a lecturer in Multimedia at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).
