María Ignacia Ibarra E.
Researcher and activist, author of Tumbar la blanquitud
Working across decolonial feminisms, anti-racism, the political ecology of water and anti-punitivism, María Ignacia Ibarra E. has developed a career spanning research, teaching and activism. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Universitat de Barcelona and is the author of Tumbar la blanquitud. Ensayos urgentes sobre raza y colonialidad (Catalonia: Descontrol, 2024; Mexico: Bajo Tierra, 2026), co-director of the documentary Wiñotuay chi lewfü: el río volverá and co-editor of Justicia feminista al borde del tiempo. Experiencias comunitarias y sentipensamientos antipunitivistas (2023). Her work focuses on situated research using creative and affective methodologies, and she uses art as a tool to imagine river territories grounded in social justice. She has contributed to several collective volumes and participated in grassroots organisations and internationalist networks across Chile, Catalonia and Mexico. Her current interests centre on hydofeminisms from the Global South.
