What is whiteness? How does it operate in the production of knowledge and in the ways we inhabit the city?
This discussion proposes thinking about whiteness not only as a racial category, but as a cultural and political structure that defines which bodies, forms of knowledge and ways of inhabiting the city are recognised as legitimate. It will explore the relationship between structural racism, knowledge production and urban life, including the ways in which even certain progressive discourses can reproduce exclusion and epistemic extractivism without truly questioning power relations.
Participants will include Lilian Thuram, an anti-racist thinker and author of White Thinking, whose work examines the historical construction of white thinking in Europe, and María Ignacia Ibarra, a Chilean researcher, lecturer and activist, author of Tumbar la blanquitud, whose work is situated within decolonial feminisms, anti-racism and political ecology. The conversation will be moderated by Victoria Muñoz, a lawyer, political scientist and anti-racist activist.
Session with simultaneous interpretation.
Free admission. Limited capacity.
