Priya Sen

Independent filmmaker and artist

She works with film, video, sound and installation. Her work explores forms of fragility and ambiguity within realist documentary, while experimenting with narrative forms and cinematic gestures. Her interests lie in eclectic, itinerant and egalitarian cinema, and in the forms of presence that accompany each work. Her filmography includes No Stranger At All (2022), an exploration of disconnection and loneliness in Delhi; Faasla (2021), a series of video letters created with Nicolás Grandi (Buenos Aires); Yeh Freedom Life (2019), a fiction film about the tensions between love and family, freedom and restriction; and About Elsewhere (2008), about the role of the places we inhabit in constructing the self. Her work has been screened at festivals and venues in India and internationally, including the 65th Flaherty Seminar, the Berlinale Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival, Outfest | Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival, the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival, The Kitchen, LA Filmforum, Experimenta India, Images Festival, the Dharamshala International Film Festival, the Kochi Muziris Biennale and the Flaherty Film Seminar. She holds a Master of Arts from Jamia Millia Islamia University (Delhi) and a Master of Fine Arts from Temple University (Philadelphia), and was a Radcliffe Fellow at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (2023-2024).
