Industrial landscapes, underground culture and queer celebration shape the world of SVSTO, the musical project of Carla Parmenter, an artist known for her work with Las Bistecs. Working with producer Alejandro Da Rocha, SVSTO seeks a dark yet danceable sound, with biting lyrics centred on the experience of being young in twenty-first-century Europe, from one crisis to the next. The project draws on the industrial estates, factories and wastelands of Parmenter’s native Vallès Oriental, transforming them through an ironic glow-up that blends peripheral landscapes, glam aesthetics and club culture. SVSTO was born from a desire to bring together seemingly discordant elements: dark music and partying, life on the periphery and Barcelona’s underground culture, activism and humour, and rawness with the desire to dance.
