Valentín Roma
Writer, PhD in Philosophy and director of MACBA
Writing, philosophy and curatorial practice are at the heart of Valentín Roma’s career. Born in Ripollet del Vallès in 1970, he holds a PhD in Philosophy from Southampton University, Winchester School of Art, and is director of MACBA. From 2016 to 2026, he directed La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona, where he curated and programmed exhibitions dedicated to figures including Alexander Kluge, Barbara Hammer, Jeff Wall, Chantal Akerman, Marguerite Duras, John Berger, Lorenza Böttner and Exit Photography Group. As a writer, he has published the novels El enfermero de Lenin (2017), Retrato del futbolista adolescente (2019), El capitalista simbólico (2022) and Los trillizos (2026), all published by Periférica. He is also the author of the essays Rostros (2011) and Diecinueve apagones y un destello (2020).
