Valerie Miles

American writer and researcher based in Barcelona

In 2003, she founded the Spanish edition of Granta, which she has edited ever since. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature and Art, advises the Museo del Prado’s Writing the Prado fellowship and edits its fiction series. Her research into Roberto Bolaño’s manuscripts contributed to their posthumous publication and culminated in the exhibition ‘Arxiu Bolaño. 1977-2003’ at the CCCB, which she co-curated with Juan Insua.

She has published Azar Nafisi and collaborated on an English edition of Nabokov and the Puzzle of Exile for Yale University Press. As a translator, she has worked with texts by Juan Eduardo Cirlot, Enrique Vila-Matas and Rafael Chirbes. She is the author of A Thousand Forests in One Acorn, and her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, La Vanguardia and The Paris Review, among other publications.
