Victor Uallas

Agroecologist and social leader at Teia dos Povos

Working across cooperativism, the defence of territory and social justice, Víctor Uallas Santos de Oliveira works to strengthen rural communities in Brazil. The son of MST —Landless Rural Workers’ Movement— settlers, he is a social leader in the Terra Vista settlement in Bahia and a representative of Teia dos Povos, an alliance of Indigenous, Afro-descendant and peasant communities and grassroots movements in Brazil. He is president of Instituto Cabruca and COOPRASUL, where he promotes initiatives connecting the preservation of the Atlantic Forest with sustainable cocoa production through the Cabruca system. A trained animal science technician with a degree in Natural Sciences from the Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia, he runs the Chocolate Terra Vista factory, which is linked to food sovereignty and family farming. His work focuses on cooperativism, access to public policies and rural youth leadership in debates on climate change and social justice.
