Victoria Szpunberg

Playwright, theatre director and lecturer

She teaches playwriting at the Institut del Teatre, the Escola Superior de Coreografia de Barcelona and the Master’s Degree in Theatre Studies (MUET), and has been associated with the Sala Beckett for many years. Her work, translated into more than ten languages, explores the tensions between identity, memory, geographical and emotional displacement, and the political and social transformations of the present.

She is the author of plays including La màquina de parlar (2007), L’onzena plaga (2015) and Balena blava (2018). In 2013, she received the Max Award for Catalan Playwriting. Her most recent work includes the opera libretto La gata perduda (2022), for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and the plays Mal de coraçon (2023), L’imperatiu categòric (2024) and La tercera fuga (2025).
