Xaime Martínez

Writer and musician

Poetry, fiction and music run through Xaime Martínez’s career. Born in Uviéu in 1993, he is the author of the Spanish-language poetry collections Fuego cruzado (2014), winner of the Antonio Carvajal Young Poetry Prize, and Cuerpos perdidos en las morgues (2018), winner of Spain’s Miguel Hernández National Young Poetry Prize. In Asturian, he has published the poetry collections Hibernia (2017) and Pábilun (2025), the latter translated into Spanish by Fruela Fernández. His poems have been translated into English, Swedish, Gaelic and Catalan. He is also the author of the novel La fuercia (2021), translated into Spanish as La fuerza (2023). He runs Cierva y Culebra Ediciones, a publishing imprint specialising in Asturian-language literature, and, as a musician, has released two albums with the art-folk group La Bande and the solo book-album Ósculos d'agua nel Imperiu Asturianu (2018).
