Felwine Sarr and Myriam Mallart reflect on the legacy of colonialism, the importance of utopian imagination and the need to build a present grounded in dignity, reciprocity and care for the world.

How can we imagine a future beyond the ideas of progress and economic prosperity? From Afrotopía (Catarata, 2018) to La fabrique du présent (Philippe Rey, 2026), philosopher and economist Felwine Sarr argues for the need to abandon the colonial spectre of Africa as a ‘developing’ continent and instead conceive of it as a place from which to rethink and transform the world. His proposal positions the African continent as a space from which to imagine other ways of organising life, the economy and coexistence.

For Sarr, building a common world cannot depend solely on a shared fear of ecological crises and pandemics. We need to construct positive, future-oriented narratives that make a shared humanity desirable. In conversation with Myriam Mallart, a specialist in contemporary African literatures, decolonial thought and ecofeminism, Sarr reflects on the role of the arts, education and local forms of knowledge in this revolution of imaginaries.

Session with simultaneous interpretation.

Free admission. Limited capacity.
