Urbanist and researcher
He is Associate Dean at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (Bangalore). His research focuses on poverty, inequality, social protection, inclusion and access to housing. He is an LGBTQ+ rights advocate and is actively involved in urban movements related to sexuality. He is the author of In the Public’s Interest: Evictions, Citizenship and Inequality in Contemporary Delhi (2017) and Cities Rethought – A New Urban Disposition (2025). He is co-author of The Routledge Companion to Planning in the Global South (2018) and Because I Have a Voice: Queer Politics in India (2006). He also writes for media outlets including India Today, The Indian Express, Hindustan Times and The Times of India.
