Isaki Lacuesta

Film director

He studied Audiovisual Communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and graduated from the first edition of the Master's Degree in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). He combines filmmaking with teaching on the Masters in Documentary Filmmaking at the UPF and the UAB, and the degree in Cultural Communication at the University of Girona (UdG), among others. He collaborates in various media with articles on film, music and literature.

He has written and directed ten feature films, the latest of which, Una año, una noche (2022) premiered in the official section of the Berlin International Film Festival. Director of Entre dos aguas (2018), a film that won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the awards for Best Film and Best Actor at the Mar de Plata Film Festival, the Fotogramas de Plata for Best Spanish Film of the Year, as well as seven Gaudí Awards, including Best Film in a non-Catalan language and Best Director.

His films have been screened at festivals all over the world and in art centres such as the MoMa in New York, the Lincoln Center, the Anthology Film Archives and the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB). Among other awards in his career, he has received the National Cinematography Award of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2012), the Sant Jordi Award (2002,2017) and the Eloy de la Iglesia Award (2010) at the Malaga Film Festival.
