What does it mean for democracies when migration control plays an increasingly central role in politics? What responses can citizens and local governments develop in the face of the growing criminalisation of migration?

This panel examines the tightening of migration policies not as an exceptional development, but as part of a broader transformation of contemporary democracies.

The panel brings together Eileen Truax, a Mexican journalist specialising in migration, borders, human rights and US politics, and Ainhoa Nadia Douhaibi Arrazola, a researcher, lecturer and activist against state racism. Together, they will bring the US and European contexts into dialogue, examining both the detention and deportation policies pursued by ICE and the new landscape created by the recent adoption of the European Union's Pact on Migration and Asylum.

Session with simultaneous interpretation.

Free admission. Limited capacity.
