Philosophers Omri Boehm and Jordi Graupera reflect on the difficulties of agreeing on a universal system of values and the challenges facing liberal states in a diverse and plural world.
Two hundred years after the Enlightenment, what can we take from its legacy? The culture wars of our time and academic and political debates on postcolonial thought, feminisms and nationalisms have challenged the notions of equality and justice inherited from that period, which continue to underpin liberal states today.
In Universalismo radical (Taurus, 2025), Omri Boehm, Professor at The New School for Social Research, questions the real and historical scope of universalism through a rereading of texts and authors from different traditions. Building on an intellectual exchange between the two thinkers sustained over many years, Omri Boehm talks with Jordi Graupera to explore the possibilities and limitations of developing a universal ethics based on the idea of human dignity today.
