In this seminar, led by researcher and Doctor in Philosophy Esther (Mayoko) Ortega, Professor Oyèrónkẹ Oyěwùmí reviews her gender theories based on the premises presented in her book The Invention of Women, a foundational work in African feminism and driving force behind decolonial feminism.

This seminar aims to create a space of dialogue articulated around various modules that delve into the ideas set forth in The Invention of Women. At the same time, it establishes a dialogue with world realities and truths from other African forms of social/community organisation and from the African diaspora living in Catalonia. The conversation will articulate around the ideas of ‘body,’ ‘spirituality,’ and ‘world meaning,’ and a dialogue will be developed with methods that seek to frame the seminar around underprivileged senses such as sound and words (orality).
