The doctor and researcher Antonio Damasio, an inescapable reference in the field of neuroscience, talks about the latest discoveries linked to the study of the mind that shed light on the mysteries of consciousness and open up new prisms from which to think about what makes us human beings.

Consciousness is one of the great mysteries of our species. Considered for decades to be the great challenge of neuroscience, research centres all over the world are dedicated exclusively to delving into this phenomenon, which still generates more questions than answers. According to the latest findings, the brain acts as a great prediction machine that generates meaning from the perceptions it receives and its previous experience, without this meaning that the world is truly as we see it.

Consciousness would be a grand narrative shared by our species, explaining more about who we are than what reality is. Will we ever know how this feature of the mind emerged and evolved? What differentiates human consciousness from that of other species?

Antonio Damasio will participate by videoconference.
